The Old Man of the Mountains
I found this artist on Facebook, Neil Fehr, who does fabulous carvings into natural antler, and without destroying the natural beauty of the material by "shaving" it. I've purchased a half dozen examples of his work, but this is the first one to actually appear on a knife.
BudK had a BOGO sale going on Timberwolf Knives (Pakistan Damascus) and I really liked this big 7-1/2" X 5/32" dagger blade. I sent it to Duke, who created a heavy lugged stainless steel guard for me and then put everything together. I think it looks terrific. I've always thought that this sort of guard style looked good on a big knife. By the way, he still has the second blade and a selection of handles, including several more from Neil Fehr.
The 12-1/2" overall knife weighs in at a hefty 10.8 oz. If I hold it in my right hand, this is how it looks.
This is what you see when it is sheathed.
I wish Neil had signed this one as he did on some subsequent handles.
Neil is really good at integrating his art with natural features of the antler.
Thanks for looking.

He flew a drone over while I was nude sunbathing in the backyard. Good thing I was on my stomach, huh?natcherly wrote:That is truly impressive!

Re: The Old Man of the Mountains
Really great example of working within the natural features of the material. Takes a lot more skill and artistic talent to pull it off.
Did the Gov't bill you for the broken camera lens on the drone? );-)

Re: The Old Man of the Mountains
Seems like the handle was $50-60, the knife about $50 on sale, and Duke donated the rest. Reread the OP about what was left over, and talk to Duke "Knifemaker" - I'm sure he will be reasonable.warbird wrote:what that cost ya to have made ? I would like to have on !! or at least some of his carvings
