Collection

Post by johns7076 »

Yesterday a good friend brought a box of knives to my house. A friend whose husband had passed away gave them to him. He refused to just accept them and told her they probably had value and brought them to me. The pictures are attached. The boxes in the chair are all full, the loose knives have no boxes and there are 12 more boxes without knives she gave to her grandchildren. my focus is Italian switchblades and older American switchblades, but I have a pile of current made American switchblades as well. A lot of these I will put a fair value on and tell him to pass on to her what they might be worth. The rest will be up for sale soon. Except for the Bill DeShivs Leterletto which I will add to the other Bill D Leverlettos I already have.

The Solingen Germay knife in your second post appears to be a Boker-Matic. I dont know how to open them though.

I have no good ideas on values, but it makes me think that I need to leave something for the people who will get to deal with my crap about what stuff is, or what it is worth. I like my hobbies, but others may be totally indifferent.

Batlow, I totally agree and this is a good example of documenting a collection.
Not sure what will happen to my horde, one of my son-in-laws and an 11 year old grandson likely will deal with it.
The widow with this collection is not in need of money, so the value to her is immaterial. My friend feels obligated as I do to not take advantage of her generosity.

Some nice ones in the last pictures and a Leverletto which I haven't seen for a long time. Nice haul!

I'd guess 3 of those Microtechs in the bottom are roughly 250 each. Not sure what model Microtech the leftmost is.The blue Kershaw is a launch 12 and is about 75.

The Bokermatic opens this way: push the top of the front handles scale back toward the back of the knife then push the blade out the front with the lever. To close it just push the handle back and the spring action closes the knife.

Sold a bunch, some on eBay, some are listed in Buy & Sell, have three more to go, Kershaw Launch 8, Benchmade 2551 Mini Reflex II & Microtech Cypher II S/E. These don't seem to be very popular knives.

REVIEW >>>

Well, the knives just arrived and I am very pleased indeed! The one small (very small) letdown was that the Benchmade Phaeton showed some scuffing on the blade. Clearly it has seen a bit of use. But it's not awful; and the knives were never represented as M.I.B. anyhow.

However, the other four ARE in fact mint! The biggest surprise was the two Kershaw LiveWire knives. I had never actually handled one, and was expecting sort of a lower-level imitation of a Big Name knife. Not a bit of it, let me tell you! Gorgeous appearance.... easier opening than the Microtechs.... solid build..... elegant design.... within three seconds I completely switched from "maybe I can make a few bucks on these" to "wild horses could not drag these away from me".

The best surprise was that one of the Kershaws has a peek-a-boo obverse scale, so you can see the mechanism operate! Too cool!

johns7076 was great to work with..... very fair prices, excellent communication, solid packaging (fortunately! --because the box took a heavy hit during shipment; but the merchandise was untouched) -- I only wish all deals went this well. Thank you, sir..... I am sincerely appreciative.
