Reminds me of a knife I was asked to repair in the 1970s. I did not have the experience or equipment to handle the job.
But the knife was exceptional. Looking back, I assume the knife was French, about 12 inches closed. Nice stag handles, steel liners and threaded steel bolsters. When you slung the folded knife open, the blade flew out and locked via a ring pull on the backspring, but the interesting part is that another section of the blade unfolded laterally from the first section and locked. The joint was so precise that it was almost undetectable from one side. The other side had a spring latch (the part that was broken) to lock the second section of blade out.
Open, you had about 20 inches of fine steel, very sharp and well ground. It looked to me like a marine boarding cutlass with it's "swoopy" blade.

I wish I had taken pictures, but back then I never even thought of doing so.

I wasn't impressed with the "Alex" model either. I'm at a loss as to what's going on over there. I once was hopeful that AGA would come back big for their 80th anniversary in 2027 but the more knives like the Alex and the Hannibal that I see, the darker that hope has become!!

I will say this, it's like other convertibles and extenders, they're unique enough that everyone should have some version of at least one type in their collection.

Recently, I have been thinking about buying one of those Push Daggers that converts into a full size fixed blade.

Such knives remind me of the "complications" we can see in time pieces. Just the added mechanics to the basic model and function makes them more interesting.

About as far as I've got has been a Master A(lex) Extender that I acquired earlier this year. Another fun knife! I'll include a pic below. Cheers.
