ROMO with faux lock
Check out eBay item 114825863292 -- it's a vintage Italian "Romo" brand manual-open stiletto with a fake lock.... it looks like an ordinary stiletto lock, but there is no "doughnut hole" or pin to go in. I don't think I've ever seen this before; and I have to wonder if any switchblades were made like this?

Here is a pretty full set of these. I believe they are called "Slip Joint" knives.
They were made with left over switch blade parts after the 1958 band.
You can do a search on Sharperdeals to find more info.

Pretty impressive collection -- !!
In the 2nd photo, #3 from the right has a button but I don't see a safety..... is this a non-functioning button just put on for show?
Have you ever seen any actual switchblades with this slip-joint type of construction?

Re: ROMO with faux lock
Jackalope, are these all stamped ROMO?
Re: ROMO with faux lock
There were switchblades made this way. They r slip joint & they don’t lockup. I have 2 such knives. I’ll take some pics later & post them. One has the Tarry Levigne tang stamp & one has no tang stamp.button_man wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 3:40 pm Check out eBay item 114825863292 -- it's a vintage Italian "Romo" brand manual-open stiletto with a fake lock.... it looks like an ordinary stiletto lock, but there is no "doughnut hole" or pin to go in. Notice the turned up bolsters on both sides? This one only is a Jap version. The button is just for show.button_man wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 4:53 pm Pretty impressive collection -- !!

Re: ROMO with faux lock
Yes Sir.
Re: ROMO with faux lock
Yes as I mentioned above these are slip joint knives. There were never automatic Romo stamped knives with the slip joint. Terry Levigne did make some as you mentioned.Chris51P wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 1:12 amThere were switchblades made this way. They r slip joint & they don’t lockup. I have 2 such knives. That’s quite a collection! It inspired me to see how many slip joint stilettos I have in my collection. I only have five, a 13” ROSCO and R J RICHTER, a 9” ROMO, an 8” LENIK with a false button, and a 6” ROMO with a false button. Your knife collection must be something!

I'd love to see photos of the 13" Rosco!hearandgone wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 3:14 amThat’s quite a collection! It inspired me to see how many slip joint stilettos I have in my collection. Re: ROMO with faux lock
The non locking manuals ( and autos ) were made for sale in areas where the law prohibited the locking blades. Never felt they were made with left over parts as the back spring and blades ( with nail nicks) are too different. Nice collection !

Re: ROMO with faux lock
I have to apologize, Jackalope. I took out the ROSCO to photograph and found that it was not a slip joint. It is a pick lock so I only have four slip joints. I must have had too much to drink last night.Jackalope wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 6:59 amI'd love to see photos of the 13" Rosco!hearandgone wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 3:14 amThat’s quite a collection! I was responding to the point that there were switchblades made like this. I pointed out the two that I have. I never said that either of mine was a Romo or stated that there were Romos as such. Another person made that claim and then retracted it.Jackalope wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 1:26 amYes as I mentioned above these are slip joint knives. Re: ROMO with faux lock
You have a valid opinion.

Yes, I was agreeing.Chris51P wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 9:50 pmI was responding to the point that there were switchblades made like this. I pointed out the two that I have.
