Mangler I.D.?

Post by JulesVane »

Just wondering if the pics might give a clue to the mystery mangler who did this piece? It's 7.5" OAL, blade stamped Frank B over ITALY. Appears the bolsters are soldered to the liners(?). It's a fun little knife. Does anyone recognize who may have done it? Maybe the skull button or filework style lead to anyone in particular?

Based on the bolsters, it must have been done 20+ years ago.

Thanks Jeremy! That's a great start. I would have never even guessed by the bolsters myself.

I just remembered there was someone who customized Italians with ivory and ruby buttons. Some of those ones had the solid step bolsters like yours has. I can't remember the guy's name though.

That kinda' sounds like Slo-Joe(?), but wasn't there someone that did a lot of skull buttons? But, I guess many did.

I have some of Stray dogs mangels with skull buttons. He still checks in from time to time. He posted lot's of pics of his work on the forum. They could still be here unless he used photo bucket.

The ones I am thinking were similar to SJ's but it was a different guy.

At first I thought it could be an early Straydog but he never put a safety on custom button ones.

Seems like eastcoastsniper also used many skullbuttons. And maybe HDC.

Doesn't look like Merlin's work to me-unless it was very early. He usually marked his work.

I agree with Bill. I don't think it was Merlin. Sad, I know I have seen it before but my brain and memory isn't as good as it used to be.
