Strange Picklock
Acquired this on a popular auction site. It was advertised as a non switchblade manual opener. I noticed it had a lock hole in the blade, and a safety, so I was pretty sure, something was up. Interestingly though, there were nail nicks on both sides of the blade. My curiosity got the better of me, so went ahead and took the financial risk. “Not much really” The knife arrived, and just as I suspected it was a perfectly legit 50’s picklock, Made Italy. There was a broken spring inside and quite a bit of debris. I cleaned it up a bit and found that it locks closed with no peak. It locks open with just a little bit of play. The safety works, and the blade however sharpened, is in good shape. Handles are also in pretty good shape with no real cracks. As for those nail nicks, unfortunately those are very real and appear to have been carved in by an amateur machinist. My guess is someone decided they wanted to carry a switchblade but modify it to make it legal, and appear as manual opener. I really dumb idea, if you ask me, but I’m just glad to have something new to play with. I will be restoring it to its former function.

Re: Strange Picklock
Could be the spring was broken and blade altered to make functional. At some point afterwards the spring Wes repaired?

I've got a beautiful 6.25" Omega Import Co. picklock that I love in every way *except*, has the similar issue of someone attempting to butcher nail nicks in both sides of the blade! Gee, they couldn't have at least picked only ONE side!? But, I love the little buggar anyway!
