I have just $4,500.00 more to pay and I'll take it home! (The insurance settlement from the accident I suffered on April 7th, 2020 will complete payment for this beauty! There were only 205 of these made during the 1997 model year and this example had been lovingly restored. It had 181,000 miles on the clock, but the engine is still very strong! (This was the best 4.0 (243 cu. in.) 6-cylinder that ever came out of the Jaguar plant).
I am ecstatic!
I am ecstatic!

This thing rides like a dream! The 245-horsepower puts the big 4110-pound vehicle down the road at a reasonably quick pace. It is the consummate "British Gentleman in a tweed sports jacket" that cruises effortlessly down the freeway at 70 mph while yielding 20 miles per gallon. (That's a 460-mile range, people). If I back it off to 55 miles per hour, I could probably squeeze 23 miles per gallon out of it (this car uses Premium Unleaded fuel, kids). You can't run it on 87 Octane "camel urine". No sir, you may be able to extract about 500-506 miles from a tankful of Premium "push water" but you are cosseted in British style and comfort. The reliability of the A16 4.0 Liter in-line six is legendary, the A/C blows ice cold and the leather is sumptuous! Yes, friends and neighbors, this car is almost as comfortable as a Rolls-Royce without the hefty price tag.
And that, my friends, is more than worth the "price of admission". Don't you think?

Have you ever worked on one or priced parts? There is a reason why they sell so cheap and can hardly be given away. Sorry, but somebody seen you coming.

Truth be told, the Jaguar four-door saloons built between 1994 and 1997 were built after the 200-million pound investment from Ford Motor Company. The reliability of the 4.0-liter six-cylinder is legendary. (Believe me, the maintenance of these vehicles isn't overly costly, but you don't want to buy a "fixer-upper"). Yes, I have priced maintenance and it isn't as bad as one might think. Aftermarket parts are plentiful and are less expensive than taking rhem to a Jaguar dealer/shop. You can do a lot of it yourself, and I performed my "due diligence" (read: homework) before I bought the car.

I received a call from my Personal Injury Attorney this morning. I'll be receiving about $13,333.33 by early May. I'll pay the $2500.00 to obtain the title for the Jaguar and I'll have enough to afford another trip south of the border. I'm going to fly this time because my travel partner doesn't want to ride the 2320-mile round-trip cruise in the Jag. We'll fly and I'll pay for the room. (What's $278 for seven nights)? It is cheap and we can have a great time for "peanuts".

Does this model Jag use Lucas electrics? If so, consider some sort of exorcism, or selective replacements of a lot of the Lucas stuff....

No, it does not. This was the last year of the 243.5 cubic inches (4.0 liter) I6. This doesn't have the "Prince Of Darkness" Lucas systems. This model was made 8 model years after Ford pumped 2-million Pounds Sterling ($2.3 million USD) into the company to improve quality and reliability. The problems faded out in 1989 when Ford stepped in. 32 years have passed and it is now 20 years into the 21st century. (You might want to pay attention to what's happening in other countries).
Jaguar is now owned by Tata of India.

Actually it is now 20 years into the 21st Century which began Jan 1 of 2001.Fishtail Picklock wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 2:33 am...32years have passed and it is now 10 years into the 21st ccentury. (You might want to pay attention to what's happening in other countrie).
I never owned a Jag but was intrigued by the XJE with a v12. A friend had one, but his stories of problems and maintenance issues gave me pause. Other foreign makes I like are Hispano Suizas, Minervas and the British Daimlers.

The Lucas reference reminds me of a joke I read from Al (Vagrant) 20 or so years ago
Why do the British drink their beer warm?
Lucas refrigerators
