Red REM 10.5''

Post by Chris51P »

Sorry but I can't remember who made a comment about posting more pictures of knives. But they are right. With the endless variety of knives it should be easy for members to post pictures. I enjoy seeing them and I'm sure most members do also. So, here's my first with more to come down the road. I came across this one in an auction and thought it might be worth a try. I got it and ended up with a very nice example. I've bought in other auctions with not as good luck. From what I can see original red Rizzi's are not that easy to come by. Here are the before and after pics. The first picture is a combination of the knife as posted on the auction site. Dirty, neglected and with a peek. The peek became more exaggerated after I cleaned the knife. The second pic shows it cleaned up but still with the peek. Can't have that... right. So, sent off to Jeremy to fix. He was kind enough to help out and took care of the peek. Thanks much Jeremy! This knife does not have the REM blade stamp and is a swedge blade. Not the bayo blade that I've come to expect with Rizzi's. Hope to see more member pics.

Gorgeous looking piece. The length, oriental style cross guard and meticulous clean up make this a stunner.

It's really hard to see in pics but if you look for the faint impression of a line and hole here, that is how you can identify original scales on this model.

And the rare color ones (anything other than black, white or IMOP) almost never have the REM stamp. In fact, so few of the ones I've seen had the REM stamp that I suspected those ones might have had replacement blades.

Yeah, here are two of the 8.5" ones. The one on the bottom is the red IMOP and the top on is the maroonish one. The top one has the REM stamp but I think it is a replaced blade.

Did you meant the regular IMOP? This one has regular white IMOP:

Those red one have the same swirled material as the IMOP, just with red. I don't know if red IMOP is the right word for them but it is what I've been calling them. The red 10.5" ones, like in the OP, are solid red.

So...none of the red, blue or green should ever have the REM stamp on them? That's something I certainly never knew!

I'm not 100% about that. I haven't seen many of the off-color ones but they almost never have the REM stamp. I have seen a few that did have it but it was so few that I wondered if they were switched around parts. In that pic of the two red 9"s one of those has a REM stamp but I think it is not original. Someone else pointed out that not too many people ever did work on Rizzutos, other than peek fixing, so maybe there are just a very few off-colors that have the REM stamp.

I also thought none of the brass liner/NS bolster guardless ones had the Rizzuto stamp but then I found one that had an EMR stamp. Those ones have blades that aren't compatible with the swingers so that was an original blade.
