Fake Hubertus
I recently received a knife to repair blade peek.
It looked to be a Hubertus 9 CM model, but something didn't look quite right.
The most noticeable feature was the clip point was ground straight-not with a graceful curve. The threading on the liners appeared to be stamped in, rather than cut. Looking inside the blade well, the kick spring appeared to have been waterjet cut. The logo on the blade was smaller than usual.
Mr. Ritter of Hubertus told be some time ago that they were switching to some parts that were cut with waterjet-so I was a little confused.
I contacted Mr. Ritter and was told that there was a new fake model appearing in the US.
I disassembled the knife and found: the sear holes in the blade are rectangular, rather than round. The kickspring is shaped differently, and there is a slight difference in the shape of the backspring.
I attempted to repair the blade peek by hammering the sear hole closed-a process I have done hundreds of times. The blade tang immediately shattered-sending pieces into the unknown.
If the customer approves, I will post pictures of the knife soon.

Re: Fake Hubertus
Thanks for sharing this Bill.
I can see the appeal to buy it,at frst glance its nice on the bolsters and the lines on them are well enoughl cut,the stag looks nice as does the lever finish.
The etch looks different but not much different than my examples.
The nail Nick looks slightly different almost enlarged,I'm after one similar at the moment but its older, the newer smaller ones I have seen don't have one,but again I'm no expert, but I'll be taking a closer look for The points you shared with these pictures.
The sharpened edge reminds me of a Chinese shellpuller I have but the polish is better on this one.
Thanks for showing this ,something to look out for and stops the Chinese or whoever making more money on goods that arent their idea.

Re: Fake Hubertus
I don't know. There is some evidence that these may actually be new production Hubertus knives.

Re: Fake Hubertus
Thanks for sharing Bill. It would be interesting but disappointing if these prove to actually be new production Hubertus knives...

Excellent post. Bill, please let us know if you find out that its definitely real or fake.
Re: Fake Hubertus
Hi Bill,
Do you have a connection with someone at Hubertus? Can you contact them to see if they could shed any light on this issue?
It would be a shame if Hubertus is producing these inferior knives.

Re: Fake Hubertus
Hubertus has been strangely silent about these. It appears these may be new production Hubertus knives.

Re: Fake Hubertus
I hope it is a fake!!! The newer production of theirs has gone down hill from years ago but this would be a new all time low!!
Re: Fake Hubertus
Ken (wicollector) stated on SD that they are not fakes....his quote.

Re: Fake Hubertus
A sad day in the knife world. So much for German craftsmanship, even the etch looks like crap.fastr19 wrote:Ken (wicollector) stated on SD that they are not fakes....his quote.

Is Henning still running the show or did they hire a 9 year old Chinese boy to manage Hubertus?

Looks like the tried an true saying now applies to Hubertus .................

Hubertus is known for a quality knife. I hope they go back to making knives as they once did not so long ago.

Re: Fake Hubertus
Getting a good Hubie has been hit or miss for a while. The last two new knives that I bought had issues with their final assembly. Serious blade peek on one and the other knife's spring falls out of it.
