Presto Knife kick spring

Post by usafvet »

Need help. I have an old presto switchblade with a broken kick spring. I would like to try an make one myself, can anyone recommend how and what I would use for the material and the material size? I have the old spring, it is in two parts, i think i can duplicate the shape, just not sure what to use.
Thank you for any information and advice on this subject.

Do you know what model Presto you have. Judging by your name I'm guessing Paratrooper.

You will need 1095 steel or similar.
It will have to be heat treated after you make the spring.
A Presto is not exactly an ideal knife to learn on.

I have some stuff you can use. It's pretty easy to file into shape (well, easyish) and you won't have to do any heat treating. I think the knife you have will only require removing one pin to do it. Can you post a pic of the exact Presto you have? I need to see if it has the spring pin above the scales or below them.
