Autos that do not close all the time

Post by rnchesnut »

I have a couple of vintage knives that have difficulties closing and locking up. They will either close and then spring open or just take 4-5 attempts to close. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it without dismantling the knife. I have tried a little Ballistol and push the blade firmly when closing. But it hasnt really helped. One of the knives is a small Cartillier du Luc. Shows obvious peeking. Please advise. Rob.

It could be a number of issues: worn out sear pin, enlarged sear hole in the liner, loose rocker arm, bent liner or a combination of issues or something else. If you’re not comfortable taking the knife apart and repairing it yourself you should leave it to a pro.
Good luck, let us know what the problem was and how it was repaired.
