I love single action OTFs . . . .
The whole fast release button press is so much better than a NATO spring pressure button.
Sweetheart of a collection.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Vagabund asked me to draw the guts of a side cocker. . .and I sort of stopped after a bit.. . .
I don't understand the bottom of the blade tang.
There is a photo looking down into a liner hole, and I see a ROUND sear hole beyond the liner hole.
And I can't figure out it's position on the blade.

If I draw a sear hole where the cocking arm touches it, the sear hole in the blade tang would be visible when open.
Yet photos of an open blade . . .front r back. . . show no holes.

this makes me think the cocker arm point pushes a carriage, and not the actual blade.
But I don't have any evidence of that.

That. . .and I am guessing at the actual blade length proportions to the handle length,
by looking at photos with some degree of Parallax.
I think I drew the blade length too long. . . .

Okay . . .using the full length image of the side-cocker provided by Agaguyjason. . . .

I have the Blade length corrected, , ,and I see the sear hole geometry works out better,
there is no need for a carriage. . .
However, if there was a carriage. . .the blade could be longer. . . but it is not. . . .

The actual cocking arm sits up on a shelf when the blade fires, so the blade does not snag on it.
When the cocking arm pushes the blade to closed battery position. . .it rides down a ramp.
So the cocking arm is a tempered spring pushing down against the liner.

The cocking arm pushes the whole length of the slot, then when done, and the cocker is folded shut . .
the cocking arm rides up the ramp back onto it's shelf.

The other arm that travels up near the top bolster . . .I'm guessing does not need to touch the blade.
I think that upper sear hole is for the upper arm to hold the whole 3 folding arms in the closed position.
Otherwise, the arms would flop all over the place without that detent to keep it at upper battery.

We know the length of the blade tang, because it fills the whole spring relief hole in the closed / cocked position.
And the blade tang sear hole is never visible on an assembled knife.
I drew a large cutout for the upper arm . . .but I'm not sure it needs to exist. . . .it would be extra clearance only.

Sorry Agaguyjason, for hijacking your thread. . .
But Vagabund had asked me 2 months ago for drawings of how a side cocker worked.

I still have to draw the button side . . I just worked on the cocker first. . .
So. . .I'm going to rest a bit before I draw the button side . . .
it could be a long while. . .The weather change has affected my joints.
and my day to day hygienic activities just exhaust me. . .
I go to the bathroom, and walking just exhausts me, I have to take a nap.
And I have a bunch of Pulmonary doctor visits coming up,
so I'll need to get my legs bandage wrapped for travel. . . visiting nurses. . .

I can log in for short comments, , ,but I'm spent for a bit with anything complex.
