Hubertus-Kris

Post by JulesVane »

This can take some getting use to- but I think I can. 10", Kris Blade, Horn Scales. I guess it's part of the Hubertus "Slim-Line" (?). Not the first vision that comes to mind when thinking of a traditional German leverlock....

Really nice Jim! Thanks for sharing that photo! Now, regarding the German blade length regulations (that I don't know much about- years, etc.), would a 10" knife produced in Germany be made for the German people, or strictly for export? Thank you Sprink! It is in pretty great shape.

Not sure of the answer to your question Chris, my knife was made around 2000. It is not as old as yours as I noticed yours is a "W". The German law for knives sold in Germany was changed in the mid 2000's (not sure exactly when) to require the width of the blade to be a certain % of the length (not sure what %). The result was, of course, the tubby blades on the newer ones. Clearly our big Hubies would not meet the current required proportion, but I don't know what the law was for knives to be sold in Germany when mine was made, let alone yours. Sorry I could not be more help.

Here is mine with stag scales. It is as sharp as a butter knife but looks wicked...

I saw that AIK has a 10” dual blade for sale with Kris blade as auto and a manual clip point. It’s cool looking but I don’t have the money for it.

I have about 20 kris bladed autos. All of them, except the Hubertus, have some edge on them, albeit not much, probably put on by the maker to testify that they are indeed knives

Actually the sharpest one I have is a 13" squarebutton from Burn. You can't shave with it, but it is a cut above all the rest in the sharpness dept....

That is one impressive looking knife David. Being a BURN, I imagine it is beyond flawless.
