I Just bought an Italian gun, a Davide Pedersoli , 44 Remington ,cap n' ball.
But black powder is proving very difficult to find here at the moment.
What would be a nice Italian knife (my first) to go with my nice Italian gun.
I have looked at the FB and the SKM sites but i don't know where to start.

I can get pyrodex but was warned against using it in a "blued" gun cus its supposed to be even more corrosive than BP.
I was told pyrodex was designed for modern or stainless guns?
I'm pretty new to BP guns so i don't know if this is true or not.
I'm going to my club tomorrow so I'm gona try and borrow some BPuntil it starts coming through again.
Apparently BP has been reclassified in the UK and thats why its hard to get now.

I may be wrong but I think Pyrodex was developed in the late 70s [or sometime in the 80s] before stainless BP Guns were common. I haven't heard of any problems with blued guns, but Black powder is not my specialty.

Good evening guys,
I'm pretty well trashed tonight so I won't make this long. Pyrodex is from the 70s. Pyrodex is just about as corrosive as Black Powder. Pyrodex produces less residue than Black Powder. Pyrodex will not harm blueing (blacking) any more than Black Powder. Pyrodex should be cleaned the same as Black Powder. Pyrodex charges are measured by volume, NOT BY WEIGHT. Pyrodex comes in different grades P for pistols, RS for rifles and shotguns, CTG for cartridges. You need P for you .44 pistol. If you can find a yank at an Air Force Rod & Gun Club, he can write Bruce Hodgdon and perhaps get them to ship several pounds of Pyrodex to the club. Pyrodex is a propellant NOT an explosive as is Black Powder. I did that at RAF Bentwaters in 1983. My experience is that Triple seven and clean shot do not ignite as well with a #11 percussion cap as with a 209 shotgun primer and can cause a hang fire. Pyrodex will fire every stime with a standard #11 or #10.75 cap. Do not forget to grease the mouths of the chambers before firing or you risk a chain fire, which is most entertaining I promise. Good shooting and may all your shots be Xs.

Thanks for the info. on Pyrodex guys.
I would like to get a Ruger - Old Army some time and i will try it then.
I managed to blag some BP today so next weekend will be fun.
Today was also great cus i tried my first home loads and didnt blow up my gun or kill myself (altogether a rather successfull trip to the range.)
Now i still need some advice for my first Italian switch blade.
