Could you tell the difference between 'expensive' knives and 'cheap' ones if you were blindfolded?

Post by MingOnMongo »

Lately been wondering how much the growing popularity of knives and EDC's has also been affected by '$nobbery' (aka, "Mine's bigger, better, whatever..."). But say, if we were blindfolded and presented with a number of different knives, price points, and after testing reasonable 'performance' for the size and design... do you think your own final 'ratings' would usually align with the 'price'?

An old Mad Magazine Cartoon comes to mind,
" How do you tell the difference between a Real Mad Magazine. . . and the competition pulp."

Taste it, roll it around in your mouth, lick it in the crease. . .does it taste "Cheap", or full bodied.
Take the knife and put it in a box, close it, and listen to it. . .Can you hear the telltale click-bump of Quality.
Smell it. . . .Is it like new horn. . . or plastic . . . or God Forbid. . . .Tactical carbon fiber inserts. . . .
Set it on the floor . . Does the dog "Pee" on it ? ? ? . . . . . if so. . .he approves and is claiming it as "good stuff".
