That's the first one I've seen from a mining spike. Have seen tons made from railroad spikes.
What is the size compared to a R.R. spike ?

I think it's a R.R. spike used for the tracks laid to carry mining cars in and out of the mine.

it's a spike from the rails that mining cars ride on in the mines, its alot smaller, about
2 3/4'' new. i forged the blade out a little over an inch on this one, then ground it.

i've even made them from spikes that new were only about an 1 1/2'' . i think they were called bobbie car, or trolley car spikes.
