trapdoor from years past
In 1968 I backpacked across Europe and in Rome I discovered switchblades. When I asked where to buy them I was told to go to the parfumerie. I did and bought this trapdoor for about $7. I then went to a hardware store and bought a bunch more. What a time! I brought them back and still have them. wish I had known to buy a bunch more, but even then my budget wouldn't allow it.

Sweet one!
Re: trapdoor from years past
I was in Rome in the early 1970s. They were every where then.
Re: trapdoor from years past
As I understand it, switchblades are now illegal in Italy, with some exceptions. what a shame!
Re: trapdoor from years past
I believe they have been prohibited for quite a long time in Italy. Not sure about manufacturing, but I think that’s why Angelo sells from Austria.

My friend is in law enforcement and went to Italy for work a few years back. He said he did see them in sporting goods and gun stores but you need a permit to buy them. He also heard from the local law enforcement they are still sold in tourist areas with no real fear of anyone getting arrested. They can be made for export and licensed sales.....

My bucket list includes a trip to Maniago. At some point I need to know where to go there and what can be seen/experienced.

Re: trapdoor from years past
Wow - very cool.
So you bought a bunch of them and still have them???
Want to double your investment?

I bought four switchblades, all different. I still have three of them. someone stole a 13 inch stag horn from me in college. The others are a stag 9 inch, an 11 inch BO/BC.
How I got them back home is a whole other story for another time.

Re: trapdoor from years past
Read about this not too long ago. It must have been a relatively recent change in the law. I used to think they were legal to own, manufacture and sell in Italy but just not legal to carry. I don’t know what the requirements are for a permit to possess and sell switchblades in Italy is, but it must be a law that they don’t enforce very heavily considering how prevalent they are throughout the country. I always see Italian collectors on YouTube showing off their collections.Tom19176 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 3:48 pm My friend is in law enforcement and went to Italy for work a few years back. Yes they are illegal to posses in Italy but legal to manufacture them if you have the required papers. They sell and ship them from Austria (Campolins' store is situated there) Villach Austria and Maniago is just a stone throw away.

Austria does not have any switchblade restrictions.
