Bolster-activated auto

Post by prober996 »

This auto releases the blade when you push the bolster to the right, ever so slightly. It snaps open very fast and hard. I've had many of these over the years, and they all fail after a while. The mechanism is very subtle and touchy.

I was just thinking about these today when I got to thinking about knives I haven't seen for sale in awhile.

These were a clone of the old Microtech lightfoot Lcc knives Microtech stopped making. I always wanted the real thing and never shelled out the money.
I wonder if the Microtechs developed the same wear on the opening seer and turned into poppers?

That's probably why they stopped making them. But despite the eventual failure mode, I love this knife. It opens strong and fast and locks up tight. I have three of them.

Here a couple of real LCC's plus a CMTx 5, the knife that had the sear issues.

I paid more than that in the 2000's and 2010's... probably in the $40-$75 range.

Yeah, that happens all the time in gun shows, etc. But I like them and can afford it!

I am sure at shows they went for more $$ BladePlay sold them for like $10, but you could buy a dozed for about $60-70. Two sizes and different handles.....

These were hugely popular in very early 2000. There weren't many DECENT low cost autos on the market that didn't fall apart after firing it a few dozen times honestly. These had some issues with the locking mechanism and the blades popping open from time to time but when they were a winner they were very very fun FIDGET knives lol. I've even seen people throw custom scales on these from time to time years ago. Fun period of "low cost" exploration. I know it's a clone but they were sold for $15-$20 and being an authorized Microtech dealer myself back then, they weren't concerned about these items from my conversations with the company reps

A scale release knife is my daily carry 95% of the time. Over the years I have carried a few different clones and the real stuff. From a Lone Wolf double duty and the old Matt Diskin/Valloton V&D and others. For the last several years it has been a Volcan Amsterdam that Diskin also had a hand in. These were supposedly manufactured in Taiwan and were about $90 bucks. It has held up very well but unfortunately it seems to have been discontinued.

Been thinking I may need a new EDC just because it can't be replaced. I may need to retire it but I'm so used to it that I may just carry it until I lose it or maybe it wears out.

Yeah, these were cool!! I had picked up 3 different scale versions back about 8 years ago but all had the issue with them being too finicky opening & staying closed after a lil bit of use. I scored them back then for $5 a piece.
