pearl handle switchblade repair

Post by Rgragg701 »

I inherited a nice knife collection from my Dad, including a couple of nice switchblades. The pearl handle switchblade is very nice, however it is stuck open in a locked position. See attached picture. Does anyone in this group have any idea if and how it can be repaired?

Thank You,
Robert G

Have you tried close it like in this video? Your knife looks to be a kit knife.

No, I haven’t tried that. I didn’t realize that that’s how you close it when I get back home I’ll give it a shot. Thank you.

The other knife in the picture looks like it was set up as a spring loaded switchblade at one time, possibly being modified to be just a regular switchblade! Does it look familiar?

The other knife to the left, looks like it classifies as a "false button", It is meant to look like a switchblade but was probably made after the switchblade ban in the 50s, when switchblades no longer could be legally imported.

Someone here knows probably more.

What's the tang stamp on the white one? Looks Asian to me but I've been wrong before.

Great knowledgeable group here, Pearl handle switchblade works great and is super sharp! I just didn’t know how to close it.
It’s a stainless edgeco, made in Italy. You’re right about the other one, made to look like a switchblade! It looks pretty old and stamped G.C. Co

"G.C. Co" stands for "Gutmann Cutlery Company". They were a US importer of Italian knives, as well as knives made elsewhere in the world.

Are either of these knives considered valuable? I don’t really want to sell them, just curious and want to start collecting knives, I also inherited a few of World War One and 2, German made daggers

I dont know about value on these, but someone else will know.

Can you post pictures of your German daggers? You can post in the Swords and daggers category.
I have several reference books on German military knives, Would be fun to see

sad to tell you but, the white one is not pearl, it white plastic, or white acrylic, still a cool knife.

The Edge Co. had an interesting history; here is a catalog page with your exact knife (from 1987)https://public.fotki.com/switch67/edge_ ... html#media

Rock n roll, it feels really heavy, how can you tell it’s not Pearl, just curious? I don’t know enough to tell the difference
