Are 13"Italians still being made?

Post by Erik131065 »

Here by I don't mean the asian ones but the SKM,Renzo B or other makers from Maniago. There's a lot of modern stuff hitting the market today but they are not in my field of interest. Does anyone here have some kind of inside information whether they are gonna make them again or is every manufacturer in the realm of tanto otf's and those? I'm still looking for classic 13's...

Duncan has sold some 13" Italians on FB the last few months. They had that modern tang stamp that has been around. I saw the 9" version at the Mystic Show last week, and the quality is not what it was...

.

I didn't even realize that Italian 13s were hard to find. As recently as a couple years ago I would encounter them fairly regularly.

Myswitchblade.com had a new batch of what they called Frank Beltrame 13" swivel bolsters about a year ago.

The last date I remember for Renzo Pascotto/AGA Campolin 13" wasp-waist picklocks is 2019.

And the last date I remember for AGA Campolin 13" swing guards is 2020.

I can't find any of those last two dated 2021 or later. But I can't say for sure that there aren't any.

It wouldn't surprise me if they stop making them altogether. If the "old timers" in Italy aren't making them anymore, and if the younger generation isn't interested, or considers them cost-prohibitive to produce, then it will likely be the end of the factory-produced 13" Italians.

On a related note, I see that a pre-owned Renzo Pascotto/AGA Campolin 13" wasp-waist picklock sold on Lathams Vintage Knives for $900. I remember a few years ago when I was considering buying a new one for $400.

Pride and Joy of my collection are my AGA Campolin 13"Picklock and my 11"Frank B. Picklock. But, Since I'm in Europe I have only one source to buy from; 3Knives. But Classic style stiletto's, both picklock and swivel bolster seem to get scarce here. If I was to live in the U.S.A. I would have bought me a nice 13"tranny and a lot more at some kind of Gator Show.:) Unfortunataly, even collecting them here is strictly prohibited with the exeption of Austria. American knife dealers don't ship over the pond. I"m into nice stiletto's in good shape , tangstamps don't bother me. But thank you all for replying. I should have stated that I lived in Europe in the first place. Sorry.

They showed up on a few other sites now too. Did you try 3Knives? They are on your side of the pond.
