Is anyone else NOT fond of serrations on their carry knife?

Post by Fishtail Picklock »

Many knifemakers insist on putting serrations on either their spear-point, tanto-point, or clip-point blades. Even when working as a Security Officer, I couldn't see the advantage of serrations on my carry/working blade. There was always the rare occasion that I would need to cut either a stout line or recalcitrant seat belt. I always kept my blade extremely sharp so that a healthy sawing action would ensure I could easily cut such restraints/items.

Does anyone else feel that serrations on the blade is "gilding the lily" when it comes to a carry automatic?

I'm not a fan of serrations on a pocket knife.

Can't stand them.

Don't particularly like them and I have a few with them but I don't edc one with serrations. I can see where they could come in handy but if your knife is sharp you shouldn't need them, just my opinion.

Greetings, Mr. Jim D-

I prefer to carry just the serrations, and leave the knife at home...

I must be the odd fellow. Every knife I carry (which is every day), has serrations. I can't be without them.

We have a small Colonial auto with full serrations clipped to the sun visor in each car for emergencies, but I don't carry a serrated knife.

You explained this once before, but I didn't know that particular Colonial had a partially serrated blade. Colonial knives are great and have wonderful value as "service" knives. Is there a particular purpose for the serrations on your "visor knife"? (Car hoses, seat belts, etc.).

The blades are fully serrated.
Yes, for seat belts, etc.
