I have wanted one of these for 22 years and I'll have one soon.

Thanks.

This knife will be another one for "pocket carry" rotation here at the farm. I believe these have a blade composed of 8Cr13Mov steel.

8CR13MOV VS AUS 8

8CR13MOV AUS 8

CORROSION RESISTANCE 6/10 7/10
EASE OF SHARPNESS 8/10 9/10
EDGE RETENTION 1/10 2/10
TOUGHNESS 6/10 6/10

I bought one very similar in Blue with a different blade etch.
for a gift to a Police Department relative of mine.

It was nice, but I tend to like more slender knives.

I could put it on a diet, but would have to cut down on the (Smith &) Wesson oil!

Well, , ,I'm on a limited budget, , ,so I only spend on stilettos, or long thin types.
and I avoid multi-color handle sets. . . .that sort of stuff. . .

Why did it take 22 years? Are these supposed to be hard to find, or what?

(I bought one at the flea in 2018.... figured I couldn't go wrong for $50....
then in Jan 2019 I saw this one on eBay! Don't remember if it got pulled.)

I am not much for serrations on a knife. I keep mine sharp enough to cut seat belts without the need for serrations to "saw" through the material. This will go into my "pocket clip" rotation as a backup for my yellow Delrin CV Case Peanut. With a four-inch blade, it is an excellent "Get The Hell Away From Me" knife and can handle most heavy-duty cutting chores/applications.

The reason it took so long is that other priorities got in the way. (Life is like that, you know).

I repeat myself at the risk of sounding redundant...

Life is good

Yes, I sure do know about priorities.... it just sounded sort of like you had been actively
looking for 22 years and couldn't locate one. That's just the way it came across to me.....

Mine has the plain blade too. I was amused that both varieties are "First Run" -- LOL.

Amusing, is it not? These weren't/aren't the best automatic Military/Police-type knives on the market, but they are serviceable blades. These may seem "collectible" but, in reality, are effective "user" knives. Some refer to them as "beaters" but I prefer to call them tools. They are a commodity to be used in the field. When they wear out, they are to be replaced.

An effective implement, properly used, is a salute to the manufacturer. IF it sits in a drawer it isn't much more than a "lint collector" is it?

This will undoubtedly seem like a dumb question to many; but I simply don't know: is there any actual connection to the Smith & Wesson company?
Did they make these, or allow them to be made under their imprimatur....?

Taylor Brands bought the rights from Smith and Wesson to use their name on these knives.

I received my Large S&W "Military Issue" First Run Model 1000S Automatic Knife today, and I couldn't be more pleased! it is big! The handle fills my hand and the large blade is sharp! This is a "user" if I ever saw one, and it is in my pocket as I write this.

The knife is thick and strong, making no apologies for being what it is. The knife was quite sharp when I unwrapped it from the envelope, but after a few strokes on the Spyderco "Sharpmaker", the 4" clip-point blade glides effortlessly through a cash register receipt without even breathing hard! The coil-fired spring makes the blade launches with consummate authority, stopping with a pronounced "clack". This knife lets you know that you're holding a piece of cutlery with "command presence". The Model 1000S is a knife that is ready to serve you, and its construction bespeaks its proud namesake.

I wish Taylor Cutlery still made these. God knows we can all use a hard-working automatic knife that can do the job without a hitch. Believe me when I tell you that this is a well-designed (and well-made) knife that will serve the Military/EMS/Fire Personnel and the hunter/outdoors person. :D

If you want a great knife at a fair price that gets the job done without excess effort, buy one of these

Remember: "Gold is where you find it", and this knife is a treasure that's frequently overlooked. I'm more than satisfied, I am ecstatic!

I believe this is the exact opposite of what you intend to say.
Unless I am quite wrong, you wish to say "bespeaks" instead of "belies".
