Why are these knives called prison knives? What prison on earth would allow inmates to manufacture automatic knives?
By the way AnticMen your collection is outstanding!
Taz your granddaughter’s collection is also outstanding!

I'm starting to believe "Russian Prison knife" is a brand or company with state of the art Chinese machinery and materials....lol

plot twist: I'm about to launch INOX, INC. and trademark the word and thus claim every knife with only this marking.

Well many Soviet prisons had a mini plants on their facilities where people were making things like kitchenware.
So they had a equipment and materials to make a automatic knives.

Doesn't seem fair to American prisoners who have to keister stash a shank.

While those knives are definitely coming from Russia (or Ukraine at least) I agree that it seems unlikely that Russian prisoners would design knives that looked like that. Every picture or description I have ever heard of life in a Soviet era prison was basically the opposite of what those knives looked like.
I think "Russian prison knives" is just a marketing gimmick. Or possibly a dig at the general conditions of life in Russia.

Some of them are pretty cool. I like that they are constantly coming up with new designs.

Perhaps I will sell my collection, but so far I can not put it on the mail that I am a newcomer to the forum.

There's nothing "state of the art" about them. Kinda crude actually. Most use a small long coil spring down the spine like the ball pull Schrades. Button release mechanisms are interesting.

That’s a very nice collection you have, AnticMen.

Does that smaller knife that you had to open with two hands have a broken spring or was it made without one?

That one silver knife that you couldn’t get to lock open might need a little oil on the mechanism.

Kinda reminds me of some of the stuff a lot of us started out with when Blade Auction was in it's hay day.
