1930s flat guard purchase.
I just got this flat guard from the 1930s. There is no maker.

Beautiful! I'd imagine the 1930's wasn't a big time for exporting, thus the lack of stamp on so many of those old flatguards.

Thanks for the replies JV and the gang. I forgot to say it is about 10 1/2 inches open. Here it is next to an 11 inch.

The difference in blade shape is very interesting.... the edge of the older knife sweeps
up more dramatically.... has it been sharpened, or is this the natural curve of the edge?
I am also wondering how you can specifically date it to the 1930s, since I am looking for
aspects of knives from this era that can be used to judge the age of my 'Marca Oro'.
And finally, at the risk of being nosy..... did you pick this up at a bargain price, or did you have to shell out tall dough for it?
Either way, it's a heck of a nice find -- ! Congratulations !!

I was just looking over the photos again, and did a double-take!
What's the story with that hole on the BACK of the ricasso?!
..... does the sear hole go all the way through the blade...???

That is a knife any collector would be pleased to have. Regarding your comment "no maker" - Maniago cottage industry I would guess.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. The blade defiantly has a different shape when compared to a 1950s plicklock blade. It tapers more to a point. The thickness also tapers. Here it is next to a 1950s EIG picklock.
