Real or Fake

Post by TexasRed »

New to the forum (already posted my "hello" post).

Need some help from the group. Is this real or fake/clone? Came by it for free (helped a friend do some stuff, he gave me the knife) so not a big deal either way. The stamp just looked a little funny and the quality seemed low.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Think it's real but there is a thread here that shows the real stamp with the fake stamp. The hole in the blade doesn't appear to go all the way through and that's a good sign it's not Asian but I've been wrong plenty of times.

The real ones I have seen don't have the "M" and the "Y" at the end of the triangle.

AKC knives are laser etched. That knife is stamped. It's fake.

I don't think I've seen any genuine Italian switches with a very light wood like this;
all the wood scales that I've seen on Italian knives have been quite dark.

( Does anyone here have an educated guess as to what type of wood this might be? )

Looks like it could possibly be olive wood. I'm reasonably sure it's not plywood though.

Many modern Italian knives were/are made with olive wood scales.

Am I seeing things or does it look like the back guards are fully lined? That is really weird. Even a real modern Italian AKC would not have that. I don't know what an Asian clone is going with them. And I don't know what to make of that little dimple to the right of the sear hole. It almost seems like someone started drilling the hole and realized they were off a little.

Also, I think it has been rescaled. The scale pins look like rescale pins. And the safety slot has that really skinny tip at the very top. Anyone who has rescaled a knife with a modern safety knows what that is. They put the scale on and realized the safety wasn't working so they used an exacto knife to extend it a little to allow the safety to go a little further up.
