Re: Latama switchblade picklock - help identify the year

. Skip ~ Dunno how conversant you are with the jargon.... the "tang stamp" (properly called the ricasso stamp) refers to the markings at the base of the blade -- in this case, the name "Latama" and the word "Italy". The size, shaping, font, and placement of this stamp can reveal clues about the knif...

Re: Imitation Horn

. "36 Hours" is an excellent WW II thriller starring James Garner as an officer who is drugged and kidnapped by German agents. He awakens to find himself in an American hospital, and is told that he suffered a head injury, has been in a coma, and the war has been over for years..... but the hospital...

Re: A Clear and Present Folder

.

Kilgar + LD57 --- I'd love to see those! Can you guys post some pictures please?

Bill --- That seems odd..... I would think that simply molding a precise configuration would
reduce production costs by eliminating the additional step(s) involved in making cuts.

Re: A Clear and Present Folder

. Yes, I've returned to clarify this post, realizing that I had not been sufficiently specific..... I know that metal handles are common on USA-made autos..... what I actually had in mind when I wrote this was ONLY Italian-style stilettos. I don't recall ever seeing any stiletto types with micarta o...

A Clear and Present Folder

. I picked up this little folder at the flea on Saturday for a dollar. It got me to thinking.... Scale material for switchblades --unless you spend big money for a custom piece-- are extremely constricted. You see the same old (very limited) stuff over and over. Why not stainless steel..... or alumi...

Re: unknown British "camp knife" switchblade

. jerry ~ I am familiar with the "007" knife. I have a couple variants, as seen below. The bottom knife is marked "ROMO 007" (with an arrow through the 'ROMO') on the handle. The scales are flat, with rounded edges; they could possibly be some kind of fruitwood but I'm not an expert in wood and this...

Re: unknown British "camp knife" switchblade

.

I think that it might be possible to watch it on TCM through some sort of "On Demand" feature;
not sure if this costs extra or requires a premium-level account or something like that.....???

Re: unknown British "camp knife" switchblade

. Tom, it's difficult to make any statements with certainty because I only got a VERY brief glimpse of the knife. I can't be sure that it really was a "camp knife" style of knife -- I can only say that that was the impression that I got from that momentary look at it. But I don't think that it had b...

unknown British "camp knife" switchblade

. I started watching " The Bishop Misbehaves " (1935) on TCM (Turncoat Classic Movies) this morning; but after maybe half an hour, my interest waned and I turned it off. But there was one early scene that interested me greatly: 'Red' the barkeep pulled out this huge flick-knife and snapped it open.....

Re: alphabetized list of Switchblades in Films

.

Thanks to everyone for the additions..... it's too darn hot for me to do a lot of work on the List right now;
as soon as cooler weather arrives, I'll update it.

I noticed a switchblade in "The Night Flier" last night but was unable to discern any details about the knife.

Re: Help identifying Kris switchblade.

. It does have a bevel under the lock, it is not a button open. Ah, okay..... the bevel doesn't really show up in the photo (to me at least). (And I assume you meant that it's not a "button-close") I think you did great on value..... it's the magic Goldilocks size, and with an unusual blade for a kn...

Re: Help identifying Kris switchblade.

. sharpy ~ That's a great find !! May I be nosy and ask what you had to shell out? (a little scale humor there!) The lock tab does not appear to be beveled on the underside for lifting. (note the bevel on the lock tab of the R. J. Richter in the photo below.) Can you confirm the assumption here that...
