Re: Info on Switchblade
Local knife laws and restrictions are available at https://kniferights.org/ You may find that some collectors will eschew the smaller knife simply because they feel that the nail nick looks out of place on a switchblade. The more significant issue IMO is the big "bald spot" around the deployment but...

Re: Repair & Custom Handles??
Just to be crystal clear, two people (other than Bill) have been referenced in this thread as possible choices for repair jobs. I choose not to specify which person was involved with my situation; but in my initial post here, I worded the first sentence in my second paragraph very carefully -- the p...

Re: My New Display Case
Jim ~ The last time that I had knives out in the open, it proved to be very convenient for the guys who kicked in my back door while I was at work.
I do not display my collections in my home any more.

Re: My New Display Case
JPD ~ That's a very handsome chest you have there..... a line that I seldom utter to male persons.
Here's another one: I sure would love to see the complete contents of your drawers!

Re: Repair & Custom Handles??
Tex ~ Thank you for the kind words. This was my sole motivation.... to send up a warning flag to others. Not all of the hazards in our hobby are counterfeiters in China; some are a lot closer to home. And if people don't have the gumption to speak up to help other folks, then this site will IMO be t...

Billyfish ~ YOU have no idea what communication may or may not have transpired in private. As for public comment, I believe this is a public forum. And I posted for the sole purpose of informing and helping others, which I view as worthwhile. Moreover, I did so knowing that I would receive no thanks...

Re: Repair & Custom Handles??
I have strong misgivings about saying this, because it seems certain to create controversy and ill-will..... but dammit, if I was thinking about spending a lot of money on repairs, I would want somebody to speak up.... so, here goes: A couple of years ago, I needed a spring replaced. I contacted a r...

Re: Fakes
JPD1998 ~ Thanks for the tutorial.... it was very illuminating and I greatly appreciate it! I would love to see more side-by-side photos and explanations like this! I have seen a number of knives recently that I suspect might be fake, but I don't have enough experience to really tell for sure. BTW, ...

Re: Latama, Real or Fake.
Thanks Bill..... I stand corrected..... so, the question remains: What is the composition of the bolsters on this knife?
Perhaps the owner could weigh in here, and tell us whether the bolsters look like chrome or nickel.....

Re: Real or Fake
I don't think I've seen any genuine Italian switches with a very light wood like this;
all the wood scales that I've seen on Italian knives have been quite dark.
( Does anyone here have an educated guess as to what type of wood this might be? )

Re: Latama, Real or Fake.
RE: photo #2 I just noticed something else.... the 'break' where the false edge begins is closer to the deployment button than the safety slide. On my Lat the 'break' is closer to the safety, creating a much shorter false edge than you see on this knife. I don't know if this is a universal "tell" bu...

Re: Latama, Real or Fake.
It's difficult for me to tell just from a photo, but the bolsters look like chrome-plate to me.... weren't all Latimas made with nickel-plated bolsters? Also, this piece is incredibly clean -- if it's real, somebody would have had to purchase it 60+ years ago, wrap it up carefully, store it in their...
