Re: 19th century DIRK
I suppose that it could have been made within the last 50 years or so; but the seller (whom I trust somewhat) mentioned that the whole place was loaded with antique items and that there wasn't anything there that was new, or even new-ish. Yes, it could have been just a story.... but I have bought go...

Re: Rizzuto quality?
Tom ~ Yeah, I know that Bell is Korean..... I just wondered if anyone else had run across a "NATO Military" style knife with the "Secret Agent" name.

Re: Rizzuto quality?
Speaking of the "NATO Military" style knives ~ ~ ~ I recently picked up a knife of this type, except that where it's usually stamped with that identifier on the handle, it says "Secret Agent" instead. The blade has an etching of a dragon head (I think that's what it is) about halfway down the blade;...

Re: Rizzuto quality?
"Rizzy’s usually run anywhere between $200 or $350 when they pop up" -- Seriously??? I thought I was being slightly gouged when I paid $200 for the pair of Rizzies mentioned in my above post. I cringed at paying that much.... but they really are in like-new condition. Paying over $200 for just one o...

Re: Rizzuto quality?
I have 3 Rizzutos, plus 1 knife that is absolutely identical to a Rizzuto but has no markings of any kind anywhere on the knife. When one of these knives snaps open, you can literally feel this..... well, a sort of flimsy, tinny quality..... in your hand. I have no emotional or nostalgic fondness fo...

Re: What happened to autoknife.com
This is what I have been told about 'Superior' -- none of this is first-hand knowledge; this is simply what I have pieced together: Mr. Santini wanted to make traditional stiletto switchblades using top quality materials and producing uniformly excellent and beautiful knives. He set up shop in Mania...

Re: What happened to autoknife.com
And furthermore, to use English on blades made in Italy for export to Germany? Wouldn't the etching be either in Italian or German? And why even bother making them at all....? Once the blades got to Germany, what would anybody DO with them? There certainly weren't enough 'Superior' knives made to cr...

Re: What happened to autoknife.com
I did business with "JB" last year. He had some blades purported to be left over from the Superior company, run by Mr. Santini. The prices were surprisingly reasonable (compared to his asking price of $600 for an ordinary Rizzuto, for example) so I bought them. Two of the blades had 'Superior' etchi...

19th century DIRK
Hello everyone..... I just picked up this nasty-looking dirk at a local flea market last weekend. No markings of any kind; no sheath either. Amazingly, the blade and guard are absolutely tight -- not the slightest bit of play or wobble. The seller told me that the knife came out of an old barn in Cu...

Re: Show your rams horn scales please
thom ~ Thanks! It's sort of intimidating to see the vast array of knives exhibited here by more than a few collectors -- my own collection is very modest, and it's encouraging to hear a kind word. BTW, I picked up my very first vintage Latama at a flea market a couple weeks ago! It's pretty short (8...

Re: Switchblade vs Folding Knife
Depending on your specific outdoor activities, you may want to seriously consider bringing a machete. If you're going trout-fishing for an afternoon, it probably won't be necessary; but I would certainly bring one for camping or extended hiking trips. Back in the 1980s, I bought several inexpensive ...

Re: Show your rams horn scales please
In my admittedly limited experience, I have only purchased one ram's-horn piece so far. It's pretty nice, though -- Teflon coated, which adds a really striking contrast to the horn.

Re: Buck 110 Autos
In my admittedly limited experience with APC (automatic pocket cutlery) I have only seen one of the "factory autos" from Buck in real life (as opposed to photographs) and it left a lot to be desired..... the deployment button seemed flimsy and loose, and just..... well.... cheap. The knife would fre...

Re: Rizutto repair experts, looking for some knowledge...
I have almost exactly the same collection of parts! (identical size Rizzuto) My blade is in much better shape, though.... no corrosion or other issues; looks just about brand new. My button assembly and safety assembly are missing from the rocker, just like yours. Most importantly, my kickspring is ...
