Re: Can someone explain these two autos?
Thanks for the feedback. The knife has 2 pins that fit into the tab that locks it. The spring exerts constant pressure on the blade (like most autos). When you pivot the bolster (in the same way you close an auto) it releases the pin which allows the spring to push the blade, you must let off the bo...

Can someone explain these two autos?
Hello, I found some more stuff I don't understand. I'm sure, however, one of you here can help me out. 1) The first (top picture) is a "Canal Street Cutlery Ring turn Knife". It's got a little ring that you turn to open. Is it an automatic? Does is have a lock mechanism to hold the opened blade in p...

Re: Looking for Italian stilettos -any wood with brass bolst
Yeah, I've been watching the Sharper Deals auction site; I'll check out that one that was recently posted. A few years ago, Cool Hand Cutlery had every wood/brass combo you could imagine but they seem to have seriously changed format recently and their Italian selection is next to nil. The only sell...

Re: Can someone explain this ballistic knife?
Thanks for the feedback.
Is the idea so that you can have a hidden gun, like in case you get searched or so the bad guy doesn't know you actually have a gun?
Other than that, it seems kind of impractical. It would be difficult to aim, among other problems.

Can someone explain this ballistic knife?
Hello, I have been interested in Ballistic Knives for a long time, though I've never actually seen one outside of pictures and videos. When I was a kid I saw the movie Commando with Arnold Schwarznegger in which he uses a Ballistic Knife. After that I made my own with a metal pipe and large spring. ...

Looking for Italian stilettos -any wood with brass bolsters
Hello, I have been thinking about adding some blades to my collection. I found this board only a few weeks ago and I've already had a lot of help from members here. My favorite style is an Italian stiletto with dark rosewood scales and brass bolsters. However, I also like the other types of wood (li...

Re: a funny thing happened at a flea
Cancun or near there.
...That explains a lot; those border towns are much different that the vacation places. It's an experience to go to one of those border towns now. I can't in good conscious recommend it.

Anybody want to sell a used Cupid (Joker OTF)?
Hello, I want to get a Cupid/Dart/Extractor (whatever you call it, the single-action OTF the Joker made famous). Every dealer on the internet has them but I figured I might try and pick a used one up and save a few bucks (it's not the kind of blade that needs to be in mint condition). I am also look...

Re: How feasible would it be to convert this to an auto?
It's a lot worse than you think. Even parts from the same manufacturer don't always interchange. Do you know anyone who has a prosthetic limb? My friend works with amputees. One day I was at his office and I noticed a wall of things that look like allen wrenches. They are the tools for making adjus...

Re: How feasible would it be to convert this to an auto?
Tom,
Thanks for the great picture.
I see now what Bill was trying to get at with the "non-interchangable parts".

Re: Whatever happened to these knives??
Tom, Have you been to Mexican border towns? They have these ubiquitous trinket shops that all sell the exact same thing. Three years ago, in both Juarez (near El Paso) and Tijuana (near San Diego), I went in several of these stores that all had a glass case by the cashier, just like many American st...

Re: Whatever happened to these knives??
One last thing (I hate to be the guy who floods his own thread) but I am actively looking for one of those Pakistani brass butterflies so if anyone has seen one, or has one and wants to unload it, let me know.
Thanks,

Re: Whatever happened to these knives??
Tom, The Black Magic had a retractable sheath that went back into the handle under spring tension. They are around some times and go for around $100. ...So are you saying I was correct that the auto-sheath thing was called "Black Magic" or did you call it that because I had called it that? And... Th...
