British "Commando" knives

I recently acquired another of the so-called British Commando knives. This one, I noticed, has a flat on the blade in the manner of the earlier fairbairn-sykes knives. With the fairbairn-sykes, this is said to indicate a hand-ground, early blade. Since the same variation seems to exist in the Comman...

Re: Dagger date?

Thanks Ian. I guess this one will remain an interesting mystery. None the less, it is a cool knife and a nice addition.

Re: Dagger date?

Thanks Ian. Here is a pic of the pommel, just in case that might help you. Any logo or manufacturer information on ricasso is obliterated by pitting, so no help there. An interesting knife in any event, but I always like to know as much as I can about my toys. The scabbard appears to have not had a ...

Dagger date?

Hello all, I recently obtained this dagger and was hoping to learn something about its origin and age. Both dagger and sheath seem well made, and have some serious age to them. All opinions, info, and comments are welcome.

Re: Can you help ID this sword?

Those certainly are similar. I assumed it was cut down for use in World War II, but it sounds like it's considerably older than that. Thank you for your research. This has really stirred my interest in the swords. I suppose now the only thing to do is to try to find a full-length one. Something else...

Re: Can you help ID this sword?

Ian - the hilt appears to be wood. The handle, as you will see in the pics, is some sort of mesh with braided wire wrap. This wrap is in all 11 "ridges" of the handle. I noticed that the bottom of the guard looks thicker than most swords I've found on the internet. I've marked that area on the pic. ...

Re: Can you help ID this sword?

Whippersnapper, thanks for the info, and for the cool knife - it fits right in with my many collections. Gravknife - yep, it's definitely cut down. It seems to look to my untrained eye like a German artillery sword from World War 1. In the pics I've seen of the German sword, the handle has less "rid...

Can you help ID this sword?

Recently acquired, I'd like to learn it's origin. There are no markings left, and no remaining blade etch.
Any help is appreciated...
Thanks, Jim
