Re: German market stiletto restoration

. I'm still not clear on what exactly causes blade peek - - - on all of my knives that have this problem, there does not appear to be any wear to the sear holes -- and wear to this area is the only reason I can think of that might cause this condition. Could the retaining pin wear away enough to cau...

Could you possibly share the contact info at the museum in Maniago? I also have what seems to be an extremely rare knife -- nobody here has ever seen another one -- ...

Re: Vintage Black Widows

. For many of us, the mental image of the quintessential switchblade is the Italian stiletto with black scales. One of my very first switchblades was a skinny Armando Beltrame with black plastic scales. To me, this knife is everything that a switchblade should be. I can't understand why almost no sw...

.

I picked up the Camillus version last year at the flea for $50. Like yours, it has both S2S and U&D blade play when open.
So have all the other ones that I've ever seen. Has anyone ever seen a TIGHT blade on one of these....? Just wondering....

Re: Antique TOMAHAWKS

. Well, the decision is finally in...... and Mr. Miller does not think that these pieces qualify as bona-fide Spike Tomahawks. He feels that the wood-handled piece is circa 1899 and was probably a general-purpose tool around a farm, mill, etc. The iron piece seems more tricky.... although Mr. Miller...

. Billyfish ~ Our people could have arrived on the same boat.... mine got here in 1638. Unfortunately, for generations they frittered away their time being poor farmers instead of the far more worthwhile endeavor of piling up valuable real estate for me to inherit. Re: Antique TOMAHAWKS

. Billyfish ~ Thanks SO much for that link! My tomahawks tick virtually EVERY box on the criteria list at the start of page 3; the only possible exception is that the blade edges of the iron hawk are slightly rounded. Other than that, I believe that both hawks hit every single mark. This now indicat...

Antique TOMAHAWKS

. I hope these are acceptable as "blade" items, despite not being knives..... picked them up at the flea this morning..... The wooden-handled piece could have been used as a general-purpose tool around somebody's farmyard, lumber mill, etc. This was probably known as "belt axe" back then -- I'm gues...

Re: Dubost Gryphin knife

. UPDATE: The Jean Dubost company folks say that they did not produce this knife. They feel that it dates to the 1930s and was not intended as a working tool for a wine steward; but rather as an accessory for a well-dressed gentleman, because it was made very thin so as not to cause any unsightly br...
