Re: Back burner project

Well, I guess it was real vinyl, but fake snakeskin.

Yet another Chinese OTF

Finally had time to work with the Ivory snakeskin Juma that I bought months ago.
It’s looking much better than the Golden Dragon. 👍
I drilled and tapped the scales from behind, so the scales will be held on with hidden screws; a clean smooth scale surface on the handles.

Re: Custom switchblade

Have you got a pic showing it from the side?
How thick is it?

Re: Custom switchblade

Nice. That seems like a very reasonable weight to me.
That’s ounces, right? Not kilos?

Re: Custom switchblade

Love that blade shape.
What are those three subtle brass-y looking circles on the bolster?

Re: Back burner project

Thanks, the bolster color change was a bit of serendipity. Usually when I try something different it turns out not so good. Sammy: It is a chunk, that's for sure. Even the 9 inch version is heavy. But, I have carried it, not EDC, but quite a few times. It's rare for me to buy a knife that I don't in...

Re: ID please, looks to be 11 or 13inch

Pretty sure it’s Italian.
Blade is marked 440 B.
I vaguely remember a serrated version of the 11 inch swing guard being offered, years ago.
Nice, always wanted one.

Re: Back burner project

A small update on this one, too. I started out planning on sanding the bolsters for a brushed finish, then heating the bolsters and use the coffee ground method to try to darken them. Instead, when I heated the sanded bolsters, they started to turn a brass color. What the…?? I thought they were stai...

Re: Cheap switchblade:update

Small update:
Added a brass grommet to the lever slot.
Trying to give it a more finished look.
I still need to attach it, I’m guessing CA glue should work with the scales.

Re: Commemoratives?

The only commemorative knife I’ve bought was a Newt Livesay 1999 SOF commemorative “Woo”, a paracord wrapped tanto neck knife.

Re: Commemoratives?

Maybe, if I knew/worked with/liked and respected the person whose name was on the blade.
Otherwise, it’s kinda like getting a tattoo of the name of somebody else’s girlfriend.

Re: White unstamped stiletto w/stepped pin

I’d say Taiwan.
The Chinese knives seem to favor the bayo style blades.
And if it was from China, it would be stamped “Made in Italy.”
