Re: Boker improved cutlery

...

jim d. -- BTW thanks for the info on tracking down stuff. I'm interested to see what those "dolphin" knives look like.

Amusing bit about the domestic discussions! I'm sure different views would have been expressed had the topic been shoes, purses, or cosmetics.

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... It seems that most of my buying is done at shows, flea markets, or shops with the seller standing there waiting for me to make up my mind. I seldom have time to post a question and wait for a response. I appreciate the support but it usually doesn't work out that way. Jim d. -- on the rare occas...

Re: Boker improved cutlery

Just buy knives you like, at prices that appeal to you. This makes it simple. In a practical sense, what difference does it make if a knife is "rare?" If you are collecting for monetary gain, you do need to research. This research can be as interesting as the knives themselves. Bill, rarity (or ANY...

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... Jim -- Thanks for the encouragement... I try not to make hasty decisions, so I'll wait to see how this situation plays out. In the meantime, any information on accassing the knives of Mr. Pascotto will be very welcome. I haven't heard of the 'dolphin' knives and look forward to hearing more. ...

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... I suspect all knife companies are inundated with questions from the public, which is why many of them either make it difficult to contact them, or don't bother to respond, or both. But I'll give it a try. This makes twice recently that I have bought knives that turned out to be suspect, and I ha...

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... I think I'm more confused now than when I started. If Boker really did contract it, wouldn't the tree be on the left side of the text, like the examples shown in that link I posted? Has anyone seen a genuine Boker stamp with the tree on the right, like my knife? whip -- if I overpaid by 50% that...

Re: Boker improved cutlery

So being a Massaro doesn't necessarily mean that it's an inferior knife or anything like that?

I find it odd that a manufacturer would add totally bogus markings as a routine business practice!

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... Here are the better photos ~~~ Note the beveled pins at the top of the scales. The pix don't do justice to the stag.... the back piece has a nice honey glow, and the front piece has an attractive ridge of popcorn. What makes this knife recognizable as a Massaro? I'd like to be able to spot these...

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... Well, not the news that I was hoping for.... but not entirely unexpected. At least it's not from China, which would have been the worst-case scenario. Bill, once I have the next group of photos posted, I'm hoping you can perhaps refine the "fairly modetn" time frame somewhat..... i.e., do you ag...

Re: My Favorite Rosco

I'm sure we would all like to see the button side of the handle, as well as the markings on the ricasso. Looks like someone got an awful lot of use out of the blade; but hey, we gotta take 'em as we find 'em, right...?

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... When you see the good photos, I think you'll agree that this knife was never taken apart. The heads of the brass pins at the top of both stag scales are carefully angled to match the curve of the stag. Meticulous craftsmanship like this is almost certainly original to the piece. Yes, this is the...

Re: Boker improved cutlery

... https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?p=829602 This thread shows a page from a reference book that states that the last "improved" stamp was used in the 1920s and 1930s. However, depictions of Boker stamps show the tree on the left of the text; my knife has the tree on t...

Re: Beltrame rare switchblades swing guard red dot others

... I believe that is known as a "half-grind" style blade. Not sure how the name originated.... This is my absolute favorite blade for stiletto knives. Wish I'd seen this in time to swap my Frank B abalone for it! Oh well... (Never heard of "Skipper" so I would not have been bothered by whatever sor...

Boker improved cutlery

..... Just picked up this at the flea.... ricasso stamp shows "Boker & Co" over "improved" over "cutlery". I can't find any references to this text in recent years; only to knives from the late 1800s that had the tree on the back side of the ricasso. The seller was sure it's from the 1960s, but I du...
