Re: Stiletto backspring
That is correct. Thank you! I finally got access to Pat Havlin's build along and am studying the process in some detail. Aside from a couple friction folders I have only been making kitchen knives and I have limited forging experience so much of this is very new to me. What a wealth of information ...

Picklock Pat Build Along
Apparently Pat Havlin posted a build along a few years back on the SD forum. I've been trying for a week to join that forum, but I think the moderators have all but abandoned it. Has anyone saved that series or have a means to repost it here so it can be accessed? I'm sur there is some great informa...

Stiletto backspring
Has anyone ever seen any instructions or possibly a video regarding the back spring /locking tab fabrication for an Italian? It appears to me that the back spring needs to be heated and the locking tab has to be twisted if the entire spring is cut from a single piece of plate steel?

Re: WTB - Burn and Picklock Pat Italians
Pat Havlin emailed me today. Sadly, he stopped building knives a couple years ago. I'm not sure why but he is definitely going to be missed as he was a really, really talented craftsman.

Re: My First Handmade Damascus Friction Folder
I have a feeling an auto IS in the very near future... Can't decide whether I would go coil spring or more towards traditional Italian first time out. I wish I knew more about the inner workings and designs of the square buttons but I have no idea where one might even find that information. I do kno...

Re: My First Handmade Damascus Friction Folder
That is outstanding! If this is just your first effort, I foresee great things coming out of your shop. The bottle opener is a nice touch adding utility to the opening lever that otherwise is simply just there. And don't feel bad about appropriating this feature, remember BASE, borrow and steel eve...

My First Handmade Damascus Friction Folder
I have been collecting and tinkering with knives for years, but a couple recent custom projects have inspired me past the point of no return. About a year and a half ago I commissioned Kaleb Reynolds (Muskratman) to modify a Lepre automatic into a mammoth scaled beast with mokume bolsters. I officia...

Re: Fat Tony by Picklokpat Pat Havlin
It's 3/16" thick. I was considering 1/4" but I would have had to go with a 13" or larger which is just a bit to big to really carry - for me., plus the steel gets very expensive. I had to get an 8" bar for this blade. So... 11's always seem a bit to dainty in my hand but 13's and 15s feel like shor...

Re: Fat Tony by Picklokpat Pat Havlin
thwright@teamsiegel.com. Feel free to reach out to me anytime. For what it's worth, It takes quite a bit of pressure to fire mine as well but it's unavoidable due to the physics of the square button release and the friction created between the blade and the lock due to the heavy leaf spring. A more ...

Re: Fat Tony by Picklokpat Pat Havlin
My pleasure. Strangely enough, perhaps sacrilege, it's an EDC in rotation with a James Bros Cheyenne I customized with mammoth tooth scales. I told Pat when we designed it that despite its value, I like to carry and use my knives. Perhaps not the smartest thing considering the cost of ivory and Mike...

Re: Fat Tony by Picklokpat Pat Havlin
I have you to thank in part Bill; after buying one of your swing guards, you introduced me to Pat at the 2016 Blade show. You both make some truly amazing knives and I sincerely thank you!
