Re: Is this an antique straight razor?
Oh...I see that I didn't answer your question, gravknife. I found this at the Brimfield Antique Fair in central Massachusetts a few weeks ago. The seller had no information on the knife.

Is this an antique straight razor?
Hi All, I picked up this mysterious blade today. It seems to be hand-wrought and is about 5" long. It is sort of like a straight razor blade....sort of. There is no hole in the shaft for a pivot to connect it to a handle. The unusual curves on the end of the blade are quite symetrical. I think they ...

Handmade knife with brass handle - Is this a trench or theater knife?
Hi All, I recently found this interesting knife and am wondering if anyone has seen one like it? The entire knife is 9" long. The blade is 5.25" and the handle about 3.75". The knife blade looks to have been repurposed for this knife. It has many file marks on it, including on the back edge of the t...

Vintage German-made Bonsa OTF knife - SOLD
Bonsa single-action OTF knife signed "Bonsa, Solingen". Produced from the mid-1950s to early 1980s. Not a common knife and a handsome addition to your collection. 9" open, 5.25" closed. Blade also says "Rostfrei" and is stamped at the base with "D.B.G.M." and "ROSTFREI". Working and in overall good ...

Re: Bonsa trapdoor
Thanks again, Bill. That was my first notion, but I wanted to check with someone who knows more about the subject.

Re: Bonsa trapdoor
I have what I fear is a silly question. Is there any way to lubricate the mechanism deep inside the knive without removing the rivets that hold the handle together?
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Has anyone seen this type of large "X" at the base of a handle before?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Old 12 inch blade with 6 inch handle - What is this thing?
Ian, Thanks again for the info. Indeed, the "X" at the base of my blade is large and crude. I imagine it was done with a chisel when the metal was still hot. It would have been covered by the handle, so wasn't really meant to be seen for long. I was searching the internet and found an "Arkansas Toot...

Re: Old 12 inch blade with 6 inch handle - What is this thing?
Ian and Bruce, Thanks for your thoughts on this. From the images I can find, this blade seems a bit small, plain, and short for an Ames-manufactured artillery sword. It really does look like the right size and shape to be a spontoon. I've examined the wear a bit more closely. At some point the end o...

Re: Old 12 inch blade with 6 inch handle - What is this thing?
Thanks for your thoughts, Bruce. I found this at an antique store listed as a "spear tip". I didn't get the sense that the dealer had a lot of expertise with this sort of thing, however. It also seemed to me that most spears have a socket for the wood shaft, but I do not know much about this stuff. ...

Old 12 inch blade with 6 inch handle - What is this thing?
Hi all,
I am hoping someone can help me identify this large blade. It is unmarked except for a large broad "X" at the base. I assume the two holes were for mounting it to a handle or a pole.
Thanks for any help you might provide!
