Knife Shows and endless tactical flippers

Post by tedmen »

I've watched a good few videos of knife shows and you see table after table of big grey tactical flippers. Everybody seems all in on the CNC type build flippers. I get that they're precision made with the very best materials and tolerances...but it would be a real treat to occasionally see a table of American made full authorship Italian stilettos. Just saying.

That looks nice. Are they all Italian production knives?

I believe so although some might be oriental (but I don't think so).

By the way, this was at the Blade show in Atlanta. There were a lot more.

I was kind of meaning it would be nice to see more American made quality Italian stilettos as opposed to seeing Italian production models at the makers shows. Considering there are no end of American makers making gray tactical flippers. There's got to be more than a hundred of them.

Have they always been this way, is it me or is there some kind of tactical flipper knife boom going on these days!

They seem to be the new fad but I prefer the automatics

This is probably not the answer you are seeking but there are some makers that make Italian style knives as customs.

The above picture with the stilettos looks like Walt's Latama products.

I've been looking at a couple of interesting automatics made by a guy named Stan Moizis
aka Brno Brno. He has one with an interesting opening mechanism called his 'Dog Leg Automatic'. The novel firing button position is mounted on the outer edge of the scale on the blade opening side of the body and the button is pushed forward instead of down. It's a very snappy leaf spring knife. I think that mechanism would look great on a stiletto.

He also makes a swing guard but the button is the more traditional exposed lever Molise(?) style button.

All those guys out there making the same precision gray flippers in a crowded market should turn their hand to making some classy stilettos with the same attention to detail, variety and especially the crisp lines that Panak brought to his stilettos.

Check out Pat Havlin's work. (picklock Pat). He mad the knife I pictured.
Also that lever you are referring too was used in the early Aerials.
