Interesting knife
Hello all
Thought i would post this as its a knife I am unfamiliar with and has a strange locking mechanism.
It looks like it has a purpose with the jaws at the tail end but I cant think what.Reminds me of the old flintlock mechanisms in a way .
Could it be for lighting cannons or fuses ?
It looks pretty old to my eyes ..Can anyone shed any light on it?
regards

Re: Interesting knife
ian, does the back end work like.......pliers???
it reminds me of an old pipe knife. the blade to cut the tobacco, the clamp to hold an ember to lite it, the tip to tamp the baccy, and the thin handel to scrape the bowl.

My thoughts too Sammy

Nice to hear from you and thats a good theory ,especially with that blade shape ,and the jaws...never thought of that.
The knife isnt mine unfortunately ,I was following it on ebay as I didnt know its purpose.
I was convinced it may belong to an artillery man as a fuse holder as I have seen "divider knives" with measures on them for fuses dating way back.
I hope you are doing well my freind ... still using your knife and very grateful you were kind enough to send that.
Take Care

Re: Interesting knife
Years ago, I saw a similar looking knife, and was told it was a "pipe knife". In some ways, it was more ornate than this one. And in a bit better condition. But, basically the same parts/idea. Only seen one in my many years in the Antiques/Collectibles market.
Be nice to us old folks. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to piss us off.

Ian: I keep sending messages to you and no response. Suspect you changed email address and never corrected it on this forum, hence you don't get PM's or what I email to your last known address.
