Makers mark on switchblades
Hi all, I'm new to the fourm, i have a couple questions about some knives I have, like
Maker
Possible year made
Country of maker
One of them has a white pearl type handle and has a double lined lowercase b and under that it has rostfrei.
The other has a red pearl type handle a face with a knife in its mouth and under that it says rostfrei.
The third is large heavy and is very rudimentary made and has Sheffield steel on the blade.
As soon as i can figure out how to load pictures i will post some.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Don't need pictures for this one. From the info provided, it has all the characteristics of being made in India, maybe Pakistan. Seems like they still value connections to the homeland of the British Empire.Steve003 wrote:...The third is large heavy and is very rudimentary made and has Sheffield steel on the blade.

Welcome Steve!
I'm fairly certain your stilettos knives in your pic are Italian made.
If I remember correctly the lower case b is a stamp from Frank Beltrame from the 70's.
The other stamp is from Gustav Branner. Notice the ears on the head are "G and B". Rarer stamp that I haven't seen many of. I have no idea the time frame on it but would probably guess 60's- 70's too but a picture of the entire knife would help date it better. Scroll down in this thread and see a picture of a knife with your stamp.

I'm not sure if Gustav Branner actually made any knives. I think they probably contracted other makers to build and put the GB stamp on them.
I'm no expert and don't pay as much attention to markings on Italian knives as most collectors so I may be wrong. There are other members here with much more knowledge that I'm sure will add more helping answer your questions...Just give them time to see your post.

Re: Makers mark on switchblades
By any chance is that b Rostfrei a non-locking one? It seems like about half the bRs I've seen were the slip-joint models.
Re: Makers mark on switchblades
It is a locking type where the one side of the boster pivots to unlock it
Re: Makers mark on switchblades
That b stamp ive seen on a couple Linders ive got..that would be my guess
Re: Makers mark on switchblades
I'm trying to figure out how to attach pictures

Re: Makers mark on switchblades
Both were made by the Beltrame brothers Frank and Armando. One was marked for sale by Branner in Germany.
The "Sheffield Steel" knives have never been anywhere near England. They were made in India from the late 1930s on.

The Sheffield steel makes sense,
I friend of mine found it on a battleship when he was on his way home from WWII.

Hmm, I must be missing some of your pictures here. I see 2 knives. 1 red and 1 white. I also see some black areas in between where I think the pictures are supposed to be. Maybe just my laptop(?).Steve003 wrote:The Sheffield steel makes sense,

I didn't see the "Sheffield" pictures. Didn't need to.
All the "Sheffield Steel" marked knives are Indian.
