Re: looking for fishing knife blanks
thanx, im happy with that quality of steel, but the price is a bit high, i was looking at getting myself a fishing knife and noticed the lack of nicely finished filleting style blades, most have a very utilitarian plastic/rubberised handle which is practical, but a nice piece of our NZ native hardwood(very much similar to south american hardwoods) could make a simple knife look cool too.
i figured if i could get a good deal on a bunch of blanks i could perhaps make myself a bit of coin and amuse myself for a while.
at the moment i can actually get cheaper knives of similar quality with handles on, it shouldnt be too hard to remove handles and whack on something pretty.

Re: looking for fishing knife blanks
the trouble is that most knife blanks i can find are for the hobby market, and of generally mid to good quality and with a price that reflects that, whereas im looking only at the standard cheap fishing knife market, all i want to do is improve the aesthetics of a fairly standard low end but entirely serviceable knife, im happy to spend a few hundred dollars and hopefully make money off it and have some fun pottering about.
its looking likely il get a bulk deal on some finished fishing knives wit their plastic handles and look at removing those.

the likes of this, despite the same listed price this is about half the cost of the blanks on knifekits.com when you take into account shipping and currency conversion.

If you want cheap filleting knives you can get all you want from China. Put Google to work and you will have no problems finding them.

Re: looking for fishing knife blanks
As another alternative, try a good butcher. They use these blade styles extensively and, of necessity, will know a good balance between quality and price. As a plus for rescaling, most meat-market knives come with two large, easy-to-remove brass rivets. The chefs' knives are often more difficult to disassemble and a heckuvalot more expensive.
Re: looking for fishing knife blanks
None of these knives are "specified" as fillet knife blanks but he has some nice blanks with a flat grind.(more of a boning knife but the price is good)

Not sure but this looks ok.

Perhaps a little pricey.

I do agree that Google is the first and best place to find any desired products. But some articles are just too skeptical for me, like this one.jimbeam wrote:If you want cheap filleting knives you can get all you want from China. Put Google to work and you will have no problems finding them.

Not sure I understand why people choose to dig up ancient threads, and this one, whose previous post was over 7 years ago, qualifies as ancient. Aren't there more current topics to respond to? If not, starting a new one is always welcome.
