I think those are the real deal, but to be completely honest I'm not sure. All I know is the ones with "Deluxe" in the name are supposed to be clones, probably not bad ones though. Jaguars aren't exactly high end knives to begin with Not that I don't enjoy flipping mine.gramps wrote:I didn't realize I did that...Is this one a clone too?

Re: the old Jaguars
that looks like the one i got. cheeply serrated. but fun fun fun!
I think that perhaps these may be the copies... i mean they look dead like the ones from the 80's and early 90's, but the one in the pic posted by gramps is either newer or a better quality jaguar. --just by the looks of the etching and serration.

Re: the old Jaguars
I hear ya.
I've got the same knives and noticed the same thing before (Surgial steel) Hefty cheapo knives.
Here are 3 "Jaguars" w/ different stamps (1 of them is not stamped at all.)
Front tang stamps
rear tang stamps

Nice Jeff, I didn't know there were "Jaguars" made with hidden pin bolsters. Do you know if those are still for sale somewhere?

Re: the old Jaguars
I just got another old Jaguar. This one has a plain blade w/ no serrate. It also has "Surgical Steel" stamped correctly on the back.
The newly made Jaguars sold w/ no serrate (see mine pictured in the group pic below [blade ops $20]) are not as nice as this stamped older one even though they look almost the same.
I know of 2 more types and I'd like to add them to theser I have so far.
One of them Gramps has pictured in this post, and the other is just like it but with a simpler looking "rounder" serrate. I still wouldn't call any of these nice after owning the US made knives these clones were modeled after, there's no comparison at all, but for around $20 they are a nice hefty flipper you don't worry about dropping or using. They hold an o.k edge for a little bit. I carved my halloween pumpkins w/ one of these then sent it through the dishwasher.
Left looks like a stamp, right looks like an etch but I might be wrong

Re: the old Jaguars
I know "surgical steel" is a myth, there's no such thing [especially on a rusted blade]
But, what is "surgial steel"

Re: the old Jaguars
Everything about these knives is mis-representing
This latest is an older more rare one though, (80s 90s maybe ) w/ no serrate is a hard thing to find when it comes to these knives. The blade is also ground to the spine in the middle where the other (new version) non serrate is more "half grind" looking (differences in pics below) also a different grind than the others.
I just found it funny that I found one worded correctly. It will go well with the others, especially the etched "Surgial" variant.
The newer non serrate version in the pics below is etched "440 C" stainless or something. Even I can see that the metal is not what it says.
Possibly made from a recycled Coleman lantern and an end scrap of unistrut
This is by comparison to the real US example they cloned
.
Non serrates ( Large Jaguar ) I've found
newer available version left side - older version right side

Re: the old Jaguars
Nice Jeff! That's the biggest collection of different Jaguar variations I've seen. Nice pickup on that older model too. They don't make em like they used to

Re: the old Jaguars
Thanks,
there are still 2 more variants I need and who knows how many more.
You guys are right, these knives show up then disappear for years then resurface w/ different stamps/etches.
