Peening

Post by rapidboy1 »

I am going to try peening some pins in bone scales.
I've been putting this off for a while now but i guess i better give it a go.
I need to know how much pin to leave proud before peening and should it be ground flat or chamfered.
To pin the scales i was going to peen against a flat piece of metal and use a nail punch.
Should i use a second nail punch instead of the flat steel to stop the pin flattening when peening the blade pivot pin?

Cheers

Use the flat steel. Vise jaws work well. I use a very small (1 oz.) hammer, and no punches. Leave about 1/16" exposed on either side-flat, not chamfered. Buffing will round and soften the heads.
