mikov kit part deaux

Post by BennytheBlade »

First one Im willing to show-
Lotsa fun and good functionality, but I need to work on my fit ALOT more.
Still, I enjoyed it, and only took 4-5 hrs off and on.

Making two dis-similar materials fit togeather "seamlessly" is a real challenge  On some items you can "cheat" by slapping them togeather and grinding/sanding/buffing them to the same shape  but sometimes [often] one material will grind faster and to a different degree than the other.

Everyone should try one of these kits.
There is so much satisfaction flickin and clickin a knife of your own making and you begin to realise the work involved in a custom knife.
What's the scale material Benny?
The lever and release pin look different from mine?
Did you use adhesive on the scales or are they just held by the pin's?
Has anyone else got pics of kits (i know JAGMAN put a nice bone scaled one together).
Cheers

Very nice!
If you radius the scales at the front, the fit will look much better.

Thanks Bill-
I think I will try it on the next one.

Mr. Vagrant-
Yes, I did ALOT of hand sanding on the edges, which I dont mind, but it took most of the time.

Mr. RB1-
Its a pretty cool material called fibermascus.
Kinda expensive, but very cool patterns. This one is denim.
you can find it from Gary at http://www.fibermascus.com.
I just pinned em, so I could change them easy if I wanted too.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

looks great jag, bone can be difficult because if you overpeen, it cracks.
The fibermascus works like g-10 or micarta... very sturdy and pretty predictable.

Great job Bennytheblade. The camo patterns are also great. Will give this stuff a try, maybe on a stiletto, would be cool.
Thanks for the link BTB.

Gold Mikov

Post by Go4Broke »

Hey Jagman,

That gold color on the bolsters and blade look awesome! Was this accomplished by a mild heat treat in the oven(450 deg for one hour)? I'd like to try and do it with the bolsters, liners, backspring and screws on my next Mikov.

Best Regards,

Go4Broke

Hi there Goforbroke, the color is not actually there
It was a figment of my camera's imagination or more likely my own inaptitude with the cam.

You should have claimed that JAGMAN ,we all would have been so impressed.

I just realised you file worked the blade.
Nice ,any close up pics of that?

I want to try a multi bladed kit next, anyone built one?
