Peening questions

Post by SwitchGear »

Other than the obvious, a ball peen hammer, what tools help achieve a nice rounded peened pin?

Also is a press used to pin scales and pins?

Thanks

While a very small ball peen hammer is helpful, most knives that have raised rivets are peened with a flat hammer.
The peened heads are then polished on a buffer to remove sharp edges and round the head.
You can also use cupped punches to shape rivet heads.

A few of my learned lessons... be gentle, be patient, and read any post that is associated with peening. Also check out Bill's website and find his knife101 forum link, then read those. After all of that, practice with pinning and peening on something other than the final product (learned the hard way).
Looking for those un-repairable, lost cause stilettos.
