Missing a bolt

Post by portlandmike »

Hello Bill, I picked up this buck conversion this weekend but it’s missing a very small bolt from the backside. The half that is still there is definitely threaded but I couldn’t get a clear picture. I have a good hardware store here but I’m not sure what type of head would be available or what I should ask for.... any help appreciated

I have never seen one with a screw- but I don't work on conversions. Find a good hardware store and see if you can find something that fits.

If it's one one those itty bitty "chicago" style screws, the threading will be tiny... for instance, 2-56, or 1-72...
Looking for those un-repairable, lost cause stilettos.

You can pretty easily push that piece out. Then take it to Lowes or Home Depot and check which size you need (by the screws, they have a board with all the nuts and bolts so you can check which size you need. You can also take that out and replace it with a normal pin.

Before you take it out make a note of where the tip of the kickspring is. When you put the bolt back in, make sure the spring is in the same spot as it might wiggle up a little.

Hi,
The shop I worked in used 2-56. It was my job to drill/tap the rivet to accept the screw.
I would be glad to send a screw if you want to wait on mail. That knife is not one of the one's we did, so it might be different, but there are not many screw sizes that will fit a Buck rivet.

djones that is a very nice offer. Let me look around here locally first and if I still can’t find it I might take you up on that… Thank you
