Mini akc lever lock blade peek

Post by ChadEntwistle »

How do you repair blade peeking on an akc mini lever lock? Can you do it without removing the scales? Mine is real stag scales and I would rather not remove them if I did not have to. Any suggestions?

Try holding the blade shut while pushing the lever down, into the "locked" position.

Is it a kit knife?

Not a kit. It's a beauty just a bit of peeking, I would just prefer the blade seats in the handle just a tiny bit more.

The easiest thing to do is grind/file the blade tip down.
Anything else will involve at least partial disassembly of the knife.

Hello Bill,
If the knife is a kit and it requires to be disassembled what needs to be done and if it isn't a kit what needs to be done to remedy the blade peek issue? What is the difference?

Kit knives can be assembled wrong-blade pivot not tight enough, wrong pivot pin size, etc.
Sometimes just replacing the pivot pin with a very tight-fitting one can solve the problem.
When I rebuild a peeking knife here is what I do:
Peen the sear pin, peen the sear hole in the liner, new pivot pin. If this does not cure the peek, I work on closing the sear hole in the blade by peening.

Hi Bill,
So, what you're saying it the seller of the kit may have sent mismatched parts.
Peening the liners sounds easy with brass liners. Steel liners perhaps a bit more challenging, but because they're relatively thin still somewhat easy. Peening the blade sounds very challenging considering the hardness of the steel and thickness of the blade. Peening the sear pin could be tricky, but doable, slow and easy does it. Replacing the pivot pin is the easiest of all.
The easiest solution is to send the knife to you. However, I'm guessing the cost would be prohibitive. It maybe less expensive to just buy a new knife.

It's time to write an online book buy and download only at BillDeShivs.com no hard copies to buy at the bookstore Bill D's How To.....repair fill in the blanks,
re-scale, build, heat treat, etc., etc., etc.

Thank you, Bill, for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Bill,
I'm going to go through all the knife forums that you have posted on and collect all of your advice, tips etc and edit it and publish it. That should take about two years maybe 5. The book title will be How to do it all by John6553 as told by Bill D

Hi Bill,
I've been to 101 many times, but I don't recall Book 14. I'm going to Book 14 next.

Hi Bill,
I haven't logged onto Book 14 in two years. It doesn't appear that there is much activity on the knife forum. I like 101 it's a forum I visit. I should stop by more often, but how many places/forums can any one person really be active in. I'd have to be on line all day.

I'm trying to pare my forum participation down, too.
3-4 knife forums and a half-dozen gun forums, plus Ebay, etc. can take up a lot of time.
