Damascus, or Faeces?
I was doing some early AM shopping under the influence, (Who'd have thunk retail therapy is not a gender specific issue) & purchased a "Kissing Crane" folder, with the intent of swapping out the blade into a springer. Now sobriety/reality has kicked in, I'm doubting that a $30 knife would have a Damascus blade. Does anyone know anything about these? The photo shows parallel lines running lengthwise down the blade. -Acid etched/Gun blue?

It is quite possible, sadly many of the newer Kissing Cranes are made in China.
As for converting a non-auto to auto is not a very cost effective move. You are much better off just buying an auto and enjoy the non auto for what it is.
Non-auto stiletto-type knives are getting more and more popular.

It took me a while, but I hope the photo of a photo is clear enough-
Viking, you're prob'ly spot on there, but seeing as how I reside in the Most overbearing Nanny/Police state in the Southern Hemisphere, I gotta make do when & how I can. -It's getting ridiculous, the C-man here has been disappearing Spyderco's + Cold Steels claiming they be 'Flick Knives'! ('Cause you can open them one handed, literally, flicking them open. Something ANY well made blade should do) Due to such BS, & my auto-fetish, this is forcing me to improve cutlery craftsmanship skills.

Hi Krab-E,
I think you should be able to copy photos from Ebay and then you can put it on the forum for us to see. Once it's posted and the real knife pros on this forum see it they can give you an answer.
Give it a try, I just might work.

Re: Damascus, or Faeces?
That looks like most other low-cost "damascus" blades, which are just layered steel, and not pattern-welded like the steel you see from Devon Thomas for example.
Re: Damascus, or Faeces?
Nice photos. It doesn't look like any of my Damascus knives. I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to identifying metal work. I can only compare it to other knives that I know to be real Damascus.

Re: Damascus, or Faeces?
I mean its probably real damascus...meaning its not just surfaced etched or anything. Its just low quality...hence the $30 price tag XD
Re: Damascus, or Faeces?
I didn't expect "Damasteel" for the price . So long as it holds an edge. When it arrives I'll decide on whether to keep it stock or hot rod it.

Re: Damascus, or Faeces?
Sorry fellows, I've been trying to get a decent photo' - give up. My call is faeces; 'Twas 5 layer blade, the pin of which didn't seat in the backspring hole. The medallion looks like it was glued in by a drunkard. It does have nice shiney brass though. I've been inspired by Mr Nemo, gunna try my hand creating a barstard-child lockback auto.
