Greetings, Legion Of Fan-
Here's another WWII tale AS spun by the elder Mr. Corpse-
There he was, in his PBM-5 crown turret, the plane having done some enemy supply route interdiction bombing in support of the forces near Peleliu. They touched down to resupply at seaplane tender, and, AS the rumor had it that there was a lull in the active naval shelling of the island, the pilot sought relief from the heavy wave action by motoring around a heavy cruiser to await tender, so they were on the island side of the ship, momentarily comfortable, when, imagine their surprise when the cruiser unleashed a salvo from their main 10" guns right above them! Dad said that he had a front row seat AS 3 enormous flaming smoke rings from the cruiser's gun muzzles floated overhead, a rapture of visual awe, however a somewhat tranquil moment ending in the gun blast shockwave a-slamming his leather helmeted head into the side of the turret, to which he responded with the expected Ow, Ow, Ow!! The pilot decided it was time for a quick exit, and they did so.
This episode was first told unto me when Dad taught me how to blow smoke rings with unfiltered camels AS he eroded my allowance during pinochle, somehow always had the 'thousand aces'...
AS ever,
your ol' pal,
Wally J. Corpse

Re: Smoke Rings
Surprised the concussion didn't do a lot more damage to the plane and crew. Naval rifles were incredibly powerful guns. Thanks for the story, Mr Corpse!
