AGA Flatguard
I just picked up this 11” AGA flatguard off eBay for a pretty good price… Can anyone tell me why some have red dots and some don’t?

Re: AGA Flatguard
I believe that the "red dot" is an appointment to set one maker apart from another (i could be wrong).

Re: AGA Flatguard
The red dot is visual indication that the knife's safety is off. I guess you could figure that out just by looking at the position of the safety, but a little red paint helps liven things up.
Re: AGA Flatguard
Here is mine, no red dot. I have no idea, ran out of red paint??? Just didn't feel like it??? Maybe, and this makes sense, yours has white scales. The red shows on the white scales. My scales are darker and the red would not look as good with that background.

Re: AGA Flatguard
Thanks guys .. it just seems like most of the Campolin flatguards I find online don’t have the red dot (this one is not my knife)

Re: AGA Flatguard
im pretty sure the red dot was added by seller or someone did it, ive seen probably hundreds of them and none had red dot , none of the 11" or 13" wasp body flatguards from AGA came with red dot safety , you ask how the hell do i know because i ordered them with red dot but never got any with red dot or ever seen any with red dot , AGA didnt make any with red dot ive asked Angelo few times for red dot 11" or 13" FG's but was told they dont do red dots on them for some reason.

Re: AGA Flatguard
Very interesting… Thanks Bernie
If somebody added the dot it’s very well done… It’s a drilled or recessed hole with even sided walls

Re: AGA Flatguard
the walts flatguards have red dots but not the AGA's
Re: AGA Flatguard
yes it looks good , honestly they are not really hard to do , anyone with drill and sum red paint can make one
Re: AGA Flatguard
it does look like it was drilled a hair too low but safety is so big probably covers it ok right, usually they drill the hole right at top of safety slot .

Re: AGA Flatguard
Beautiful knives guys! I think the red dot looks great on this knife Mike. Made just like the knives of the 40's- 50's, so it really fits.

Re: AGA Flatguard
Yeah, if metalgod is right it looks like a good job adding the dot. I doubt it hurts the value much.

I was experimenting with posting a picture with my phone as described here. viewtopic.php?f=1&p=301402#p301402
Thanks whippersnapper. Although I somehow attached two pictures. Anyway no red dots on these RP's.
I think I have done it. Thanks,
Thom
BTW these are not my knives, I found them looking for red dots.
