Vintage Picklocks on a Budget
Hey guys. It's been a while since I've posted a photo. Other hobbies are been beating my wallet into submission of late, but I'm still grabbing old picklocks on a budget. Sure, they don't have the mystique of the big name stamps, but after all, they are basically the same knives, quality-wise, and made by the same *cough Mauro Mario cough* cutlers in the same shop.
So here's a 28cm B. Svobody in dark rosewood (goes well with my 23cm B. Svobody in cypress), a 20cm with a big, generic "Made in Italy" stamp, and a teensy not-for-export 16cm with no stamp other than some maker's assembly marks.
Oddly, the 20cm is my favorite knife these days. It's just one of those pieces where everything came together juuuust right.

Were B.Svoboda stamped picklocks the only ones that had wood scales?

From that time period I would have to say yes so far they are the inked that had these wood scales.JimBrown257 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 3:09 am Were B.Svoboda stamped picklocks the only ones that had wood scales?
There are some earlier Triangolo models that had them but they are an entirely different knife.

Those are all very nice. Really like horn on the 16cm

Thanks for the comments, guys.
I read on the SD board that a cashe of B.Svobodys were found in a warehouse with badly deteriorated horn scales and subsequently re-handled in ram's horn. Maybe they were also re-handled in wood?

I've certainly seen a lot of flat grind with swedge picklocks lately. I thought they were more "uncommon", but it's a fine grind. Very nice Rick!
