Walt's 13" Picklocks

Post by thom »

Pride of my collection. All three blade types made by Renzo Pascoto with Walt's cat stamp. Renzo signature on back. 1 Bayo blade, 1 half grind and 1 dagger blade that is also a Walt's custom, file worked. 13" Wasp Body picklocks with N/S flat guard bolsters. Hope you like them. Special thanks to Dave. Strange that the RP signature's are different. Renzo first or Pascoto first. They are also stamped with number on inner liner.

Great looking pieces!

I am a bit confused by the two distinctly different marks of Renzo Pascotto on these knives. None of them looks like the usual mark he puts on his pieces, see picture below. These are more like signatures, but in two distinctive styles. One is "Pascotto Renzo", a common order for names in Italy. Two others reverse this order, "Renzo Pascotto". Can you fill me in?

Don't know why different Renzo signature. The knife is a Walt's, so I'm sure he didn't want the whole Renzo stamp.

Those are beautiful, Thom. Interesting variations, too (pin materials; red dot or not; different locktab profiles). Love those wasp-bodies.

As I know it, the stamp Pascotto, Renzo with the anvil is his personal brand and follows the Italian convention of surname first. The stamp Renzo Pascotto is used on prototypes and ones he claims as personally built. All 13" Walt's were built by RP at one time regardless of being so stamped.

As Renzo is semi-retired now, I believe the last run of 11" Frosolones (or were they 10's, I don't recall) used the anvil stamp by license to Campolin. The ones I own were personally obtained from his lifelong friend Lucio DiBon as pre-sold short run issues.

Breathtaking knives thom. 8)

Very rare and beautifully made. These are holy grails now, and will be even more so in the future.A great investment that you can enjoy now.

Congrats on getting them.....Sometimes money becomes secondary and you just have to finish a set or obtain a certain must have piece.

Great to see you posting aswell Dave ,and thanks for the info on the stamps and differences.
